This Carambola Fruit Tree is unique due to its flavorful characteristics. You can see that it goes from a very sour to mildly sweetish flavor, and it tastes like a mix of apple, pineapple and kiwi fruit.

It is perfect for your landscape due to the shape of its fruit, like a star. It is medium fast growing, and has a short trunk, with multi-branched, bushy, broad and rounded crown that reaches 20 to 30’ in height and width. If you have a limited space, this tree is the best for you.

The fruit itself is 2 to 6 inches in length, with prominent longitudinal ribs. The pulp is light to dark yellow in color and is very juicy without fiber. It takes about 60 to 75 days from fruit set to maturity, but this will depend on the cultural practices and weather.

Watering

You need to water it regularly from bloom through harvest. It needs consistently moist soils and a limited drought tolerance. But overwatering can cause the roots rot diseases and foliage health problems.

Protection

When the tree is young, cover it with sheets or carpets to protect it from cold weather. If matured, it can handle temperature down to 27 degrees Fahrenheit. Place light bulbs underneath the covering for extra warm.

Fertilizer

Do it with a mixed fertilizer, with a 6-6-6-3 formulation, every 60 to 90 days. When the trees are mature, do it only three times a year if planted in shallow soils, but twice a year, if planted in deep soils. Use 3 pounds of fertilizer each year for each 1 each of trunk diameter.
