About the Wax Myrtle

The Wax Myrtle has a dense, fine-texture foliage that can be nicely trim to create a more formal look. Or you can also let the plant grow into its natural bushy form.

Depending on what you choose, this plant will attract many birds due to its fruit produced by the female plant. The small spring flowers are followed by clusters of tiny fruit that will mature in fall. It will last on the plant during the whole winter.

You’d better plant it in spring, summer, or fall and spacing it 6 feet apart or close if you want a hedge line. Dig a hole only as deep as the root ball and 2 to 3 times as wide. If you notice a soil with very poor condition, you can amend the soil from the hole with a small amount of compost.

It can tolerate the salt, so it can be grown in front of a beach. It is adaptable to a range of soils, but prefers a moist one.
